Dr James Boyce
James Boyce, author of Imperial Mud, explains how past fights against large-scale enclosures and drainage projects characterised the Fens.
About this event
Multi-award winning historian, Dr James Boyce, author of Imperial Mud: the Fight for the Fens, will explore how local people have fought to protect their Common home ever since large-scale enclosure and drainage projects were initiated in the 1620s. His account informs current concerns about the damage private speculative development is causing to contemporary residents, farmers, the rivers, biodiversity and wider nature. It inspires us to think about how local resistance to modern day enclosures can be developed. Join us to listen and discuss.
